Learning to sing with ostinati (short, repeating loops) is fun! Sounding good, MS Choir!
Your syllabus forms must be signed by you and your parents and returned to me by Friday. This is your first grade of the year - all or nothing - 100% or 0%. If you need another copy of the syallabus, go to the homepage and click the button. That will take you to the syllabus, and you can print one off from there.
What a fantastic first week back at school! Thank you, students and parents who I've met, for extending a warm welcome to me. I absolutely love being a Calvary Eagle! I am now definitely looking forward to a fantastic year!
This week, we learned a few vocal warm-ups. We also worked on singing in solfege (do, re, mi, etc.) as well as incorporating the Curwen hand signs with them. It is amazing how activating the visual, audio, and kinaesthetic faculties simultaneously enhances cognitive abilities and the students' sense of pitch. We also learned some short songs that we sang in canon (in a round) as well as one song with ostinati (short, repeating parts that layer on top of one another).
Students, I've had such a blast this week! Let's keep up the hard work!
Next week: We will be voice testing to assign voice parts (this should go pretty quickly, and you will mostly sing in small groups for this process). You will also get your first piece of sheet music (YAY!) and your new binder slots. So please have your binder!
Have a great weekend!
Welcome back! I hope you all had a terrific summer! My name is Ms. Janik and I am so happy and blessed to be your new choir director! I'm glad you have all had time to relax, and hope that you are excited to get back into the swing of things.
Keep checking back here for updates on what we're doing in and out of class, articles, and music recordings. Let's have a great year!
